I’ll start with the bottomline of this post (aka The Title): Where can I buy Old Spice?
In a marketing space, driven by numbers, ROI and sales graphs, I imagine the Old Spice (twitter/facebook/youtube) finance people will be interested to know they’ve gained at least 1 new customer. Me. It doesn’t matter how it smells, will I like it or not, who uses it, how much it costs – really, I just want one, to be like Isaiah Mustafa (aka Old Spice guy/dude/man). So, where can I get Old Spice in Israel? Don’t know, will find out. A friend visiting Israel already said he’ll bring me his – thanks Dovid!
Plenty of words have been written about Old Spice campaign, as the 2nd phase broke previous records and defined new rules for brands’ engagement in social media (aka digital marketing). I will link to three posts by marketing professionals I trust – Lior Zoref (Digital Marketing Consultant, ex VP Marketing for Microsoft Israel; post in Hebrew), Lisa Barone (Chief Branding Officer at Outspoken Media), and Hillel Fuld (Tech blogger, marketer, twitterer, writer). All three, specifically Lisa and Hillel, have analyzed Old Spice campaign, and produced a must-read list for marketers.
First off, it’s a sexy phone, in dark blue, with an executive look and feel. The central nav-button got an upgrade, with an optical navigation, similar to the Blackberry – an interesting addition that takes some getting used to. But I like it. The E72 has some large shoes to fill – its predecessor, the E71, is considered a huge success, and was crowned The Best Smartphone in Israel, twice. The E72 boosts roughly the same features as the E71, with 2 important upgrades: a decent camera (5MP, Auto-focus, Flash) and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Another major improvement, which I noticed later, is under the hood – a powerful ARM 11 Processor, running at 600MHz – impressive. Finally someone is paying attention to what I say…
Hopefully the guys over at Nokia Israel will do me a solid and let me have it for an official review. Been waiting for it since June, think I deserve it.. You know what, on second thought – just let me win it in the lottery, for Hanukah/Christmas – whatever works for you..
The coming week, July 12th, is looking like one of the most interesting weeks in the last 6 months for the local internet and SU scene, second only to that week end of March. And I’m gonna miss all of it!! Here’s what we have planned for the week. The reason for my absence is at the bottom of the post.
Monday, July 13th Globes‘ annual Internet, Communication and Media Conference will kickoff Monday the 13th, at David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv (map). The event is sponsored by Bezeq and the.co.ils, media sponsors are TechCrunch, ReadWriteWeb, GigaOM, Go2Web20, TechAviv and The Next Web. During the event the.co.ils will hold their highly anticipated TWS2009 – the most promising Israeli web and mobile startups competition. Throughout the day, 10 pre-selected startups (that were picked by these judges) will come on stage and present their solution/service/product before a crowd of VCs, CEOs, internet evangelists and media professionals.
Other than the TWS2009 there will be some cool panels and 1-on-1 interviews: Trends in consumer marketing; Future of communication (VoIP, Cellular, IPTV and more); Twitterring of course; Building personal brands by @garyvee; How-to get eBay to buy you; Creative thinking and the highlight of the event – a video-interview with David Plouffe – Obama’s Chief Campaign Mgr. in the 2008 Presidential Elections. Full agenda for the entire event is available here (Hebrew only, sorry).
If you have ANY interest in the local internet scene, you must be at TWS2009. The 10 startups will also present at this year’s DemoPit at TC50 coming Sep. If you are unable to attend (like me), start following @tws2009 and #tws2009 on twitter to catch all the highlights, photos, videos, announcements and excitement.
Sunday, July 12th Like any internet event there will be a pre-event party, by invitation only, sponsored by Sequoia Capital, Sunday evening. You’re welcome to try and get a ticket here.
Saturday, July 11th Even before that, on Saturday, Technorati founder Dave Sirfy (who’s also a judge), will host 2 photo walks at Tel Aviv, for those who fancy walks, photos and internet of course.. The first walk will be to Neve Tzedek (morning) and the second to Old Jaffa (evening). Dave was here last some 20 years ago, so this might be a good chance to catch up with him.
Wednesday, July 15th Towards the end of the week, Wed. the 15th, the Israel Internet Association will hold a half-day event focusing on the daily implications of social media, such as GUI interactions, Creating personal branding and the effects of twitter of course. You can read more about the event and its speakers here and on facebook.
All week long Now, why am I going to miss all those events? Well, I’ll be pre-occupied somewhere in the desert, paintballing my way to the target, while staying clear (and clean of the ‘enemy’. Among other things… Wish me luck and see you all next weekend )

Globes’ annual Israel Business Conference will start tomorrow (Sunday), with an impressive list of speakers and guests compiling a wide and diverse array of business and political leaders, coming to discuss the future of Israel’s economy. All of Israel’s who’s and who will attend this year, especially in light of the global recession our world is facing. If you’re busy and can’t attend in person, relax – this is 2008 – we have twitter, blogs and broadband internet access.
For the first ‘official’ time, the conference will be socially covered by my colleagues Omer Perchik and Lior Levin (big thanks to Mizbala.com for setting it up). Omer and Lior will update frequently on their twitter, and live-blog from the many panels and sessions during the 2-day conference.
Omer, Lior – waiting to read your thoughts. Good luck !
